Unique Techniques & Office Supplies

Today, I wanted to hone in on my own personal style for this card... a bit cartoony, colorful, vintage-inspired, and modern all at the same time... I think that the font of the stamp is one of my favorite alphabet stamp sets ever, and with good reason, it's the Roald Dahl collection! He's a childhood favorite of mine and probably yours as well!

Simon Says Stamp wanted their readers to "rock the techniques" so that's exactly what I did here! I knew I wanted to heat emboss, fussy-cut, embellish, distress, and, of course, stamp, stamp, stamp. For the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog, office supplies were the focus. Office supplies are kind of boring and crafting techniques are typically exciting so I loved the fact I was combining these two very different ideas for the two challenges. The last two challenges were practically the same, allowing for an easy creation. This one needed some thought.

For my techniques, I heat embossed most of the greeting as well as some of the detail, such as the checkerboard pattern. I stamped the checkerboard pattern with Versamark and I used some old (and discontinued!) red embossing powder from Martha Stewart Crafts. I just love how vibrantly red it is, it plays off of the Neenah red card stock very well. The other papers come from a collection of papers that I purchased from the Christmas Tree Shop a while back. The little people stamps and the background checkerboard pattern both come from pictureshow over on Etsy.

Thanks for reading!

  5. This one made me chuckle! I love Roald Dahl for starters, and that little guy swinging around on a rope for dear life with that terrified look on his face reminds me of days I sometimes have! LOL Super creative, super fun and the sentiment is perfect. Thanks for sharing with us at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!

  7. And it shows that you put some thought into this awesome card, William! I love a card that makes me lean forward in my chair, put my elbow on the desk, cup my chin in my hand, and wash my eyes over each and every sweet detail! Thank you for that!! Hugs, Darnell

  8. First time visitor (from Darnell's blog). I've also checked out several of the older posts. I enjoyed them all, but got the biggest kick out of the hangers-on to the balloons! Also very much admire the use of left-over scraps from 'the last card.' I save scraps, save scraps, and sometimes even use a few - would love to develop the habit of using them on the next card.
