12 tags of 2016 - october - día de los muertos

This is a very festive time of the year, not only because of Halloween, but also because of the Day of the Dead! This tag, created for this month's 12 tags of 2016 technique remix from Tim Holtz, is highly inspired by this amazing holiday from an incredible culture and also the two recent stamp sets from Tim that feature day of the dead motifs.

The Day of the Dead, or día de los muertos, is one of my favorite holidays, as you can see by my la ofrenda, or altar. The bright colors represent different aspects of the celebration, the skulls represent souls, and the marigolds represent death... apparently they smell like bones! The background was created with Tim's patchwork collage technique remix and colored with the typical Day of the Dead color scheme with my Distress Crayons.

I used Tim Holtz's thinlits Vampire die set as my template for the dimensional monster technique and then used one of Tim's embossing folders to create my sugar skull design. I added some ideaology jute twine around the nose and added the flowers, made from the tattered flower garland die and tissue, over the eyes.

  2. I was just looking at your blog because your December stuck out and I wanted to look at it. Then I started looking at your other tags. No wonder you won in November that was incredible. This October one is amazing and very creative as well. I love the flowers around the eyes. Really creative tags.
