12 tags of 2016 - March - As Authentic as the Stars

This month's tag, for the 12 tags of 2016 technique remix series on Tim Holtz's blog, uses some amazing new products that I've been drooling over and just recently acquired... and also some products I've been hoarding!

I had been wanting Distress Crayons since I saw them posted on social media from CHA 2016. I've not used gelatos or much of pastels so I was excited to get my hands on some. Here in New England, there aren't many "brick and mortar" independent craft stores left. We have the chains of course, but they never get the new stuff! I found Kept Creations as the closest place to me that stocked them and took a drive out to grab myself some Distress Crayons! It was outside of my normal driving radius but I'm so glad I drove out there because I love the store and now I know where to go!

For the base of the card, I used kraft tags and gessoed them. I used Mermaid Lagoon and Mustard Seed Distress Crayons and smudging them with my finger made me feel like I was finger-painting as a kid again, love it! The effect was exactly what I had wanted after seeing Tim's tag. I also used some Tim Holtz idea-ology findings for the minimal amount of embellishments and my tiny attacher for attaching! I used a Martha Stewart Punch All Over Star Punch as well as a Sizzix Jar Lids die set for the circles because I had nothing else that could slice through the corrugated cardboard other than by hand and  I'm a horrible fussy cutter! I blended some Barn Door on the corrugated cardboard too and stamped and smudged and splattered silver pigment ink on it as well. I loved making this tag and all of theses technique remixes have been very informative too, can't wait until next month!

Thanks for reading!

  1. How nice that you supported a local store for your new purchase and your crayon work looks terrific. FYI (from one who has tried it)--it's next to impossible to fussy-cut cardboard, only straight lines are practical. So cudos for your clever use of the circle and star dies, I admire your original interpretation of this month's theme.

  2. I love your tag it's very original and different, the texture and colour you have made in the corrugated cardboard is fantastic.

  3. Hello WG...Love your moon and stars....the colors kept catching my eyes so I had to stop over for a visit! Nice job on your tag! I had the same love for the crayons and didn't mind getting my fingers all into the project! I couldn't wait to give them a try too! Your corrugated tag looks like it was turned in to some type of metal .... Love the look! I love visiting and checking out everyone's creativity...So glad I stopped by!
