Something Old, Something New!

The past week has been a week of stocking and taking inventory of my craft stash. I have a lot of brand new items that I've yet to use at all. For this card today, I wanted to use some brand new items I received to create a card for the Sketch Challenge over on the My Favorite Things blog. I've seriously been loving the recent stamp sets they've released. I also wanted to use some stuff that I've not used for a project yet, for the NBUS Challenge #2 over at djkardkreations.com. I'm only a recent visitor to her blog but I love her sense of humor!

The Sketch from MFT Stamps was my initial inspiration, of course. During a recent trip to Target, I picked up the American Crafts Glitter Cardstock paper pack and that was the color inspiration for the card. I also used some very new items that I literally got in the mail yesterday! Docrafts released some Roald Dahl stamp sets and patterned paper and I just knew I had to pick them all up. The sentiment you see as well as the patterned paper behind our dapper frog are from this collection. For that sentiment, I used some Salty Ocean Distress Ink with my water-brush to splatter over the sentiment to tie it in with the patterned paper. I stamped the frog with Archival Black Ink and watercolored him with Peeled Paint Distress Ink. His little umbrella was stamped on a scrap of blue cardstock and I added some sparkle with a Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. The little flying mail stamp up in the corner is from pictureshow over on Etsy.

I have a lot of "never-before-used-schtuff" and I wanted to use something for this card that I've, obviously, never used. I tend to buy stamps that I know I'll use again and again (because I'm cheap!) so it was difficult to find a stamp that I've never used. Luckily, I had that stamp that I'd never touched because I had no idea when to use it. It's a frog with an umbrella so it's not exactly a generic kind of stamp! Thanks for reading!

  1. It's a pleasure to meet you, William! Thank you so much for finding me and taking the time to link your fun card to my second NBUS Challenge!! You certainly picked two things I love for your card: frogs and the aqua coloring you used. I love how you designed around Mr. Frog and put that little tag with happy mail up there for him to be looking at! Very cool!! I hope you'll come back and visit the Playhouse often and even join as a follower, if you like, so I can introduce you! Thanks again!! Hugs, Darnell
